""Calaco vineyards"" was born from a feeling of gratitude towards our land. It is a modern project with ancient roots. It is a look towards the future, without losing sight of the past. It is a family that has established a pact of trust with nature, adapting its existence to that of its vineyard. The company operates on the hilly plains located in the north area of ​​Reggio Calabria, precisely in Sambatello, a territory to which the attitude to the area vocated for the production of red wine is widely recognized. From the early twentieth century, the Calaco family takes care of this portion of territory, becoming constant and faithful garrison in safeguarding the natural heritage. Even today the vineyards are conducted by the direct descendants, who over the years have inherited the attachment and respect for the earth, also transmitting it to those who accompany them for passion and work. To the north of the small inhabited center of Sambatello, a vast flat area develops overlooking the ridge that laps the Gallic river (in the past of San Giuseppe): Contrada Trapezi. For centuries these territories have been cultivated mainly with vineyard, preferring the use of a vigorous and resistant grape variety: the alicante. The Trapezi Contrada represents one of the most representative areas of the wine production of the hamlet of Sambatello, a vast plateau in the north of the inhabited center that laps the scarpata limiting the Gallic river, as the last slope of the Aspromontan massif. The panorama that allows you to capture, in a single glance, all the Strait of Messina, a skyline that starts from the top of the Etna volcano up to the most distant Aeolian islands, is suggestive. In this scenario of particular charm, as a company we place, on the one hand, the goal of enhancing native vines such as the Alicante and the Calabrian Nerello, on the other the challenge of introducing precious and international vines: Merlot and Syrah. The area is pleasantly ventilated, the clay soil and the almost flat surveyor make it particularly suitable for the viinicola viti production. Our ownership of six hectares has a vital assets of almost five hectares, with the cellar in the center. The vineyards, broken by green areas and centuries -old olive trees, follow the natural trend of the soil. The authenticity and quality of our production is guaranteed by a viticulture with biological certification and by non -sophisticated winemaking systems that allow to express the authenticity of our territory, the processes in the vineyards provide for both the use of mechanical equipment and manual work, With the aim of optimizing resources and having punctual control in the area. The harvest operations are carried out strictly by hand in order to operate a qualitatively accurate selection of the raw material, so that the final result is representative of the passion for our business. In the vineyard, mechanical work and manual work are combined, for an impeccable result. The management of the soil is completely mechanical, while dry and green pruning derive from the manual work of our team of experts. A rigorous discipline, in all phases of production, guarantees a wine made according to tradition, genuine and refined, the final result of a great passion for this profession and the generosity of the earth.
