The PromoIsola Association was founded in 1997 with the task of promoting and creating, in collaboration with public institutions and  voluntary organisations, initiatives aimed at disseminating and enjoying the heritage and cultural testimonies present in the territory of the Bergamo island; in collaboration with national and international institutions, it promotes and carries out studies and research aimed at understanding the historical-cultural values ​​of the context of the Bergamo Island and the Province of Bergamo.

PromoIsola is the reference body for the twenty-one Municipalities of the Bergamo Island of events and projects in the cultural, tourist, sporting and musical fields.

The territory of the Bergamo Island has a triangular shape upside down, whose base is represented, to the north, by Mount Canto, while the two sides are represented by the Brembo and Adda rivers, with the first flowing into the second, delimiting the area and giving it the name of Island. The area extends over a predominantly flat surface, although to the north there are some small hilly formations. It borders to the west with the provinces of Lecco, Milan and Monza - Brianza.

A characteristic that makes this territory unique is represented by the fact that it is included and surrounded by three natural parks and protected areas recognized at national.

This territory, which has approximately 120,000 inhabitants, is divided into 21 municipalities (Ambivere, Bonate Sopra, Bonate Sotto, Bottanuco, Brembate, Brembate di Sopra, Calusco d'Adda, Capriate San Gervasio, Carvico, Chignolo d'Isola, Filago, Madone, Mapello, Medolago, Ponte San Pietro, Presezzo, Sotto il Monte Giovanni XXIII, Solza, Suisio, Terno d'Isola, Villa d'Adda) and is characterized on the one hand by a conspicuous natural heritage and material and immaterial cultural and on the other by a significant presence of productive activities.
