JUNKLE
JUNKLE and scraps. The landfill can wait.
Ever since we opened our small laboratory in the historic center of Palermo with the idea of upcycling from a disused sail, to we got everything.
And we quickly realized that we couldn't limit ourselves to just upcycling used sails. The same neighborhood of Palermo that hosts us soon revealed itself to be a source of supply of unexpected materials.
Let's talk aboutpre-consumed leftover received from craftsmen who regularly work with PVC or deadstocks of fabrics for market tents and canvas (structural upholstery fabric) which often lie forgotten in warehouses. All materials still in excellent condition, which every day risk being discarded before they can even be used. Isn't it paradoxical?
Every remnant, piece, leftover of these recovered materials has a sort of superpower. Its colors and qualities often suggest what it aspires to become. But we need to know it, respect it and understand how it can best adapt to a specific process and a particular shape to transform into a new product.
For this reason today we actively hunt for forgotten materials, without waiting for bring them. And when we do it, it's a good excuse to talk to people about environmental, economic and social sustainability.
The relationship betweenJUNKLE and the community, in a place that welcomes us, is very strong and indispensable. It may seem banal or obvious but believe us, it is not.
In our community we cultivate relationships, circulate messages, receive gifts and welcome requests.
Experience all this every day? For us it is vital.
Made to last, easy to repair, ready to be reborn. All-round circulars.
JUNKLE truly embraces the circular economy, trying to avoid even small compromises.
Our products are “made to lastâ€, that is,made to last, and “fixable†to be easily repaired. We don't want you to throw them away at the first sign of wear. For this reason, if you think you can't make it, you will always find us available to help you with their repair. One of our mottos is ""Repaired is rock"" because like rock, repair also represents a small gesture of rebellion against the establishment.
What if one day you decide not to use one of our products anymore? You can return it to us.
We will give it a new life. This is our promise.
JUNKLE and scraps. The dump can wait.
Sail, canvas or PVC scraps are never wasted. In fact, we use them to create small-sized products, once again postponing the disposal of the materials used.
Wallets, small cases and key rings are all made with leftovers from our manufacturing of larger products or with fragments of JUNKLE products used and ultimately returned.
Every piece counts and every JUNKLE product, small or large, participates in this cycle.
